Written and oral communication is extremely important to a scientist attempting to explain the ideas of current research to the public. This paper was an attempt to explain some of the fascinating work being done in chemistry with the newly discovered allotrope of carbon, the buckeyball, whose discoverers were recently awarded the Noble Prize in Chemistry for their work. My interest in chemistry and medicine requires continual practice in the analysis and critique of current literature. It is my hope to apply the skills that I have developed at Lake Forest College to a career in medicine, where the ability toeffectively communicate is crucial to patient care. I would like to thank the professors in the Chemistry Department for their continual encouragement and support.
