Abstract

This program addresses the lack of access to potable water in the Republic of Guinea. Its purpose was to introduce bio-sand water filters into multiple households and conduct the necessary research needed to determine the feasibility of bio-sands water filters in reducing waterborne illnesses. The program ran for four weeks during the winter of 2012-13. A success, the trip served as the inspiration for the winning Projects for Peace Grant proposal called Senuyaa, a project aimed at helping young entrepreneurs start a small business in bio-sand water filter construction and distribution.
