Presentation Title

Applications of Algebraic Topology

Student Presenter(s) and Advisor

Jason Veenendaal, Lake Forest CollegeFollow

Location

Abstract

Algebraic topology is the study of topology using methods and ideas from abstract algebra. In particular, we introduce the fundamental group of a topological space, and we showcase the power of algebraic topology by using fundamental groups to prove results such as the fundamental theorem of algebra and the Brouwer fixed point theorem.
