Abstract

This presentation discusses two drawings from the Baroque era: The Expulsion of Hagar attributed to Pietro da Cortona and a German drawing, Diana and Adonis. Among my research methods were: visual analysis, comparative analysis, biography and iconography. I determined that the Diana and Adonis is mislabeled, and depicts Venus and Adonis. My research on the Expulsion of Hagar focused on investigating the watermark of the paper. From this, I deduced that the drawing dates after Pietro da Cortona’s death, and I concluded that the drawing was the work of one of his many contemporaries.
