Presentation Title

Outside the lab: Conducting research with humans in their natural environment

Location

Meyer Auditorium

Abstract

As research assistants for Dr. Long on two projects, we are applying what we learned in the classroom to research in a real world setting. This presentation will reveal some challenges and benefits of conducting research outside the laboratory.

We’ll describe the challenges of using data collected by an organization: The Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center. They had a seemingly simple question: What are the effects of counseling for sexual assault (SA) survivors? In addition, we are evaluating a SA prevention program. We will discuss the “not so straightforward” process of finding answers to real world questions outside the classroom.
