Presentation Title

Creating Authentic Learning Experiences for all Students

Location

Skybox

Abstract

This panel of elementary and secondary education majors will share the intellectually challenging curriculum they have created for K-12 students across a variety of disciplines. This work demonstrates the complex process of developing learning experiences that are relevant to students’ lives and nurture critical thinking. By centering instruction on big ideas and essential questions, students develop important transfer skills that will serve them in authentic application of knowledge across many contexts. These units of study also demonstrate the principles of good curriculum design and effective teaching while applying each candidate’s personal philosophy of teaching.
