Abstract

The Lake Forest College Beijing Program offers Chinese language,internship, elective courses taught in English, as well as living-abroad programs tied to one of the most prestigious universities in China: Peking University. These provide opportunities for students to develop and expand their intercultural competencies, worldview,Chinese language skills, global citizenship, adaptability, creativity, and personal identity. Symposium presenters are alumni of the Beijing Program, defining global citizenship development as it applies to their experience abroad, including internships at the American Chamber of commerce and not-for-profit agencies, advanced coursework, excursions, and new connections made to former foreigners: family and friends. International experience and expertise built in Peking University help students build greater capacity to act as global citizens.
