Abstract

This thesis explores the history of home ownership in the United States and posits that the continued propagation of the so-called American Dream in the political arena ultimately resulted in a housing bubble and the 2008 Financial Crisis in the United States and globally. Looking at political and economic history as well as recent events, this thesis traces the intricate relationship between political ideology and economic consequences.
