Presentation Title

Value Chain Inclusion: Business Models for the Base of the Pyramid

Student Presenter(s) and Advisor

Marcel Tatum, Lake Forest CollegeFollow

Location

Meyer Auditorium

Abstract

A value chain involves the processes or events by which value is added to an item in each step of the production and distribution sequence. The goal of this research was to investigate market-based solutions to integrate more base-of-the-pyramid (BoP) participation in the value chain. With BoP innovation often, value chain activities can help to better provide health care, clean water, and food. This video summary features business model examples from Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Nigeria, and the Philippines to develop sustainable enterprises through agricultural cooperatives, microfranchising, microinsurance, microconsignment, micro-drip irrigation, and mobile technology.
