Abstract

The Beatles were not always the revolutionary artists that people remember them to be; prior to Sgt. Pepper (through Revolver), they were a boy band in very much the same position that One Direction is in now. To many, the idea of linking The Beatles and One Direction borders on blasphemous, but with a careful scrutiny of both bands, we can find some tentative points of correlation. While The Beatles are often renowned for their creative innovations in the studio, both bands share a crucial musical commonality: as their early albums progress, they increasingly fuse together influences from past and present artists in order to create their own unique sounds.
