Abstract

College is a huge financial and emotional investment, and at 18 years old, we are sold two very different stories by the media in the United States. We are told if we go to college, we will secure a better future for ourselves, but if we don’t attend college, we’re doomed for all eternity. At the same time, we are told that college will leave us in debt we will not escape, so we’re better off going straight to work. By interviewing people who made different decisions about college and reviewing both media and scholarly sources, I explore the question: is college actually worth it?
