Presentation Title

Jane Addams - Peace, War, and World Order: A Web-based Timeline

Location

Meyer Auditorium

Abstract

Jane Addams is best known for her life-long commitment to improving the lives of poor, immigrant communities in Chicago. She is much less known for what she referred to as her international “peace advocacy.” Over the past year, we designed and constructed the “Jane Addams: Peace, War, and World Order” web page. This page draws from a wide variety of primary and secondary sources on Addams’ pacifist beliefs, opposition to World War I, and vision of a post-war international order. It is a one-of-a-kind portal for students and scholars interested in Addams’ and her ideas about and activities in the realm of international relations.
