Abstract

Ionic liquids, as green and reusable solvents, have been widely used in the chemistry of the pharmaceutical, energy, and surfactant industries. In this project, they are used to understand the full range of synthetic parameters that produce two different, recently discovered iron-containing compounds. Phosphorous-heavy ratios seem to favor formation of the [FeP7S17] anion. Other ratios push the reaction in favor of the [Fe(P2S8)2]2– anion. Current work is focused on exclusive use of the ionic liquid with [BF4] to see if it may yield additional new compounds.
