Presentation Title

The Evaluation and Importance of Emergency Responses for Syrian Refugee Children

Location

Skybox

Abstract

Syria has been undergoing a most brutal humanitarian crisis since 2011. This crisis has raised serious concerns about the rights and treatment of refugees, children especially. The legitimate national security concerns of affected states have prevented many refugees from receiving adequate support. This research frames the Syrian refugee crisis as a human security issue – not a national security issue. Through this alternative lens, the research also asks what can be done further to ensure the security and well being of every refugee child in this crisis and maps a human security-based model for global responses to future crises.
