This paper was written to describe the plight of the Kurdish independence movement in the modern Middle East. In the paper, I describe both the body of political theory that supports Kurdish independence and the political realities that hinder the movement. I have always viewed the Kurds as a people who deserve their own state. As I researched the topic, I discovered the issue of Kurdish independence is a multi-sided conflict with many overlapping and contrasting viewpoints.
